Has anyone found a GF bread that feels, taste like real bread? (not hard as a rock)

My favorite is Bread by Anna mixes. I get them at Return to Eden and make them in a Zo bread maker. When cool, I slice and freeze 2 slices in a ziploc bag so I can take out a sandwich's worth at a time. This can be either toasted, grilled, or just left out to make your favorite sandwich. I also like the Pamela's mix which I do in the oven in a stone pan from Pampered Chef. They taste different than "real" bread, but after about 2 years, they are normal to me now. Let me know if you have any other questions - I almost always make my own bread rather than buy store made.

I agree about Breads by Anna but I don't have a bread machine and it's hard to make without one. I use Whole Grain Bread Mix from Gluten Free Naturals since it's also edible without toasting and easy to make by hand. Both brands are sold at Return to Eden on Cheshire Bridge.
The only pre-made gluten free bread I can tolerate is the French Bread from Everybody Eats. It is not edible without heating but it's to die for when warm! They sell it at Natural Market Place in Marietta now but I used to order it from Brooklyn - it's expensive but worth every cent to me. |

I agree with Breads by Anna - they are the best mix that I've found (don't like any premade breads). However, they are VERY expensive, so I don't bother with them (I do without bread most tof the time). When I do feel like bread, the Pamela's Wheat Free mix is good - I make the "sweet bread" recipe on the website and it tastes just like Challah! Yummy!

I'm not adventurous enough to make bread. My sister and I like the Corn Bread and Protien Bread from Glutino. Once it's steamed (and let cool), grilled or toasted it's great. You can find it in the frozen section of Return to Eden and that giant health food store on Peachtree Parkway near the Forum gym (not the Forum shopping center).

speaking of cornbread, the frozen cornbread (in a square pan) at Whole Foods is delish! It's too crumbly to use for sandwhiches, but I put sloppy joe meet or chili on it, or just eat it plain. All my glutenoid friends love it too!

My current favorite is the Glutino cinnamon raisin bagels. They're just like bagels!! I triple-checked the label after I took my first bite to make sure Glutino didn't come out with some non-GF line of food or something! They are perfect in my toaster oven, but for some reason they don't seem as good in a regular toaster.
For regular bread, I like the Whole Foods GF Sandwich Bread (In the WF freezer section), which is great toasted, and especially great with olive oil, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and pepper. I also like the Glutino high fiber bread and Flax bread (also in the WF freezer section), toasted. They have a nice light texture for sandwiches, and I like the flavor in the Flax bread. The Glutino cinnamon raisin bread is incredible -- probably the best bread I've had, but I've only found it at the store once, in North Carolina. |

Is Return to Eden open again?
I went over there a few months ago and it was closed.....haven't heard anything about it since. |

Return to Eden is open again and better than ever! I found 123 Gluten Free products there that I hadn't been able to find in a while...their selection seems to have grown!

Back to the corn bread, I found a mix at Return to Eden that reminds me of my mom's corn bread. It's from Gluten Free Naturals and has the texture of Jiffy Mix. Firm and moist, no crumbling, keeps well in the fridge (if it lasts that long).
I agree about the Glutino Bagels - yummy! I microwave mine from frozen then pop them into the toaster. |
