The next meeting of the Northern New Jersey Celiac Support Group will be on Thursday, May 28, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road in Paramus, New Jersey. It’s time for a Pizza Social! Last month Liz Silverman, Founder of Still Riding Pizza, joined us for an inside look at her amazing gluten free pizza business. This month we get to taste the goods. Pizza Fusion is coming to us with both their traditional and their lactose free gluten free pizzas. Join us for a slice or two and catch up with other members and their families. We’d love to see the kids and teens for this strictly social get-together.

Your RSVP for this meeting is a MUST. Please let us know how many are coming and if you need the dairy free (made with soy cheese) pizza. We will be providing paper goods – please bring the juice, soda or water that you enjoy drinking. The Hospital has requested that this be an alcohol free event, so please, no beer.

Additionally, we will be joined by Karen Miller, owner of Three Dogs Gluten Free Bakery in Briarcliff Manor, New York. She will be sampling and selling some of her delicious specialties. You really must check out her website at threedogsgfbakery.com to see what she’s baking up. Her line includes cream puffs, black and white cookies, lemon/lime bars, pina colada bars, chocolate banana bread, lots of pies, muffins and cakes and so much more. Karen is a creative decorating artist and has a portfolio of her beautiful edible creations. You can reach the bakery at [masked].

And we will have samples from a new Canadian company, Duinkerken Foods, Inc. (www.duinkerkenfoods.com). This company has created a line of easy to prepare mixes for white bread, muffins, cookies, waffles and biscuits. They are enriching their product with some of those essential vitamins that have been omitted from traditional gluten free fare. Look for the mixes at your local Kings Supermarkets.

We still have some coupons for savings on Kettle Cuisine’s line of frozen, gluten free soups. If you thought that chicken noodle soup was gone from your menu, you’ll be pleased to find that it’s back in a delicous offering from this company, as well as New England clam chowder and several other flavors.

The popular Celiac Awareness magnets for the car will also be available for purchase.

We have returned to our previous $2 fee per adult (children free). Please RSVP your attendance for this meeting. To RSVP and for additional information, please call Susan at [masked] or e-mail Diane at [masked].

And please mark your calendars for our upcoming meeting:

Tuesday, June 23

It was our first meeting. I attended with my son as a guest. We were both greeted warmly and welcomed. We were introduced to Diane and given a welcome packet. Out of habit, I think I asked Diane or one of the hosts, "Is all the food here gluten-free?" I was answered with a chuckle and "Yes, all the food here is gluten-free." Well, we saw so much tasty-looking food!! We walked around, sampling the treats and foods, which were all delicious! And the pizza!!! It was great to meet people from all walks of life and all ages. We talked with a few people there, and everyone was friendly. The vendors answered all our questions and were a great help. We each have a 'celiac awareness' magnet for our car now - and bought the ingenious toaster envelopes to avoid contamination in a toaster that has been used for 'regular breads'... As we left, we thanked our hosts. We are so glad we were able to be there!
    •  I thought there was a guest speaker....but there was none. Otherwise the networking and info I found out from my peers was super. I found out about LaChoy Soy Sauce as being GF. Thanks for asking. Al
