The next meeting of the Northern New Jersey Celiac Support Group will be on Tuesday, September 23, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road in Paramus, New Jersey. Nutritionist Anne Roland Lee will be joining us with a discussion on “Living the Gluten Free Lifestyle.” Anne is currently Director of Nutritional Services at Schar USA. She was previously the nutritionist at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University in New York, where she was involved in patient care and research. Ms. Lee has developed numerous educational materials on the gluten free diet, published several articles on the diet and presented her research at the International Celiac Symposium and national dietetic and physician assistant meetings. She was also asked to present at the FDA hearings on labelling.
You will be able to sample and purchase a variety of products from Katz Gluten Free Bake Shop. Katz is making delicious chocolate dipped cookies, challah rolls, breads and authentic tasting rugelah (think rolled dough cookies filled with chocolate or cinamon sugar and nuts). I never thought I’d see these delicacies gluten free but here they are and they are worth the wait. Also at this meeting we will sample a couple of dishes made with mixes from Full Flavor Foods, LLC. This company is making a line of easy to prepare gravies, soups and sauce mixes that add a whole range of yummy flavors to the gf diet. Now you can make your own cream soup using the added ingredients that you fancy (cream of carrot was delicious!) and home-made macaroni and cheese – you choose the pasta and add their fresh tasting sauce. My whole family was impressed with this line when we taste-tested it over the summer. We will also have a wide variety of samples from Schar USA. Schar is one of a very few companies marketing a fiber rich bread. Their product line is extensive, including great crackers, cookies, those chocolate hazelnut bars that remind us of a certain popular candy, and fine pasta products.
We will once again have Stonyfield Farm coupon booklets valued at $5.00, so be sure to pick yours up at the meeting. And we just received a shipment of Celiac Awareness magnets for the car, so plan to purchase yours and make a statement!
We have returned to our previous $2 fee per adult (children free). Please RSVP your attendance for this meeting. To RSVP and for additional information, please call Susan at [masked] or e-mail Diane at [masked].
The Kraft Center is a part of The Valley Hospital.
